French Orange Cream Tart

I haven’t turned on my computer since Saturday night. I think that might be a recent record, which I’m going to celebrate, despite it making me a day late with this post! Jay gave his notice to his (now previous) employer a couple of weeks ago, and his last day was Friday. He decided to take a week off, before he starts a new job at a very early stage start-up on the 8th. I decided to take a couple of days and join him, and we figured we’d go on a short road trip to visit my aunt & uncle and do a little exploring in their neck of the woods. I’m going to be out of town next week for PTC Live, so we thought this would be a good opportunity to spend a little quality time together. I made this French Orange Cream Tart on Saturday, along with a Ricotta loaf (post to come tomorrow), planning to take them to my family’s for Sunday dinner. Unfortunately, Sunday morning, Jay woke up with a fever and he still hasn’t fully recovered. So, instead, we spent some quality movie-watching time, I made meals (super rare, in our house), and the big event of today was me mowing the lawn. Woo!

Delicious!

Orange Glow Chiffon (not Layer) cake

I feel like I’ve been gone forever, but in reality, I’ve only missed two weeks of baking with the Heavenly Cake Bakers. I skipped the <a href="http://heavenlycakeplace.blogspot.com/2011/03/devils-food-cake-with-midnight-ganache.html"Devil's food cake because we were on chocolate overdose in our house. I also skipped last weekend’s free choice because I was away in San Francisco for EclipseCon from Sunday to Friday. Somehow, having skipped only two weeks, I managed to forget how to take pictures for the blog. 😉 I only got three this time.

True Orange Génoise

I first made this cake back in the fall, to satisfy a request from the guy I buy my winemaking supplies from. Of course, I didn’t have Seville oranges, then. I wouldn’t have had Seville oranges for this version either, if Vicki of Heavenly Cake Walk hadn’t been hugely generous and sent me some all the way from California. They made the trip quite well, with only one of them starting to turn green and fuzzy, and without that one, I had about 1/4 cup of extra juice, so it worked out about perfectly.
